Welcome Greetings from Alpha Kappa Chapter-at-Large! Our chapter is one of 431 chapters of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Honor Society of Nursing (http://www.nursingsociety.org). From our local base in the Denver metropolitan area chapter members carry out STTI’s mission to support the learning, knowledge, and professional development of nurses committed to making a difference in health worldwide. Chapter members honor our nursing profession in countless ways. Browse the Website pages for examples, including these highlights where members have: Ø Supported our society’s globalization efforts by co-sponsoring a shipment of surplus medical equipment – worth $400,000 – to Hossana Health Science College and Hospital in Yetebon, Ethiopia. Ø Conducted qualitative interviews with community nursing leaders for the evaluation phase of a mentoring program for pre-nursing students. Ø Presented research findings at conferences from Denver to Vienna. Ø Hosted a research mentoring event in conjunction with a regional research symposium. The original Alpha Kappa Chapter was chartered on January 15, 1966, at the University of Colorado School of Nursing. In January 1982, the chapter was re-chartered as the Alpha Kappa Chapter-at-Large with the addition of Loretto Heights Nursing, housed at Regis University since 1989. We celebrated our chapter’s 40th anniversary in 2006 with a gala event at the Dunafon Castle. Nationally recognized nursing leader Dr. Grif Alspach spoke, and we presented the Chapter Legacy Award to Dr. Martha Holt Stoner, a charter member from 1966, who has remained active throughout the years and currently co-chairs our Publicity and Information Technology Committee. Our chapter is #032 in Region 3 (http://www.nursingsociety.org/chapters/region3.html) and has more than 1300 active members: Ø Inducted from the School of Nursing at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center (UCDHSC) Ø Inducted from the Loretto Heights Department of Nursing at Regis University Ø Inducted as community nursing leaders from across the Denver metropolitan area: http://www.sttialphakappa.org/downloads/communityAchievement.pdf Ø Transferred from another chapter or holding dual membership: http://www.nursingsociety.org/membership/mem_connect.html Once a member, always a member in the Honor Society of Nursing!
